According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the suicide rate for young people aged 10 to 24 rose 56% between 2007 and 2017.
The District recognizes that schools have an important role, in partnership with parents and guardians, in preventing youth suicide. Being aware of risk factors in students' lives is key to this responsibility. Our administrators and support staff want to be respectful and responsive to community members when addressing or discussing the topic of suicide. To our parents, guardians and friends who may be looking for resources to better understand suicide risk and prevention or for age-appropriate resources to discuss suicide, please see a list of online resources provided on this web page.
