    Please read the August 2017 Letter from Superintendent Montesano to make you aware of a shift in 2017-18 school tax rates between the two towns that comprise the Nyack School District, Orangetown and Clarkstown.  

    This letter contains direct links that provide additional information from New York State regarding equalization rates and real property tax services.

    The accompanying Q&A to Nyack School District 2017-18 Tax Rates was created to assist in understanding guidelines that the District must adhere to when setting annual tax rates.

    The calendar is attached to this announcement for your convenience and can be found on the District's homepage under "About Us" in the navigation bar. 

    Please note that in the mailed version the following important documents will be included as inserts:

    -  Free & Reduced Lunch Application and packet (for eligible families)

    - Health Certificate Form and Medication Order Form (for submission to school nurses)

    - Media Release Form (for parents/guardians who DO NOT give permission for their child's photo to be posted for District use)

    - Household Contact Verification Form - NEW (for households who have not already updated their contact info for  the District database)

    A Welcome Letter from our Superintendent, "Communication Matters", and 2017-18 District Calendar Year-at-a-Glance are also included as inserts.

  • FRIENDLY REMINDER: Nyack Schools are Going Green with increased electronic mailings and communications this summer...

    If you have not already done so, please fill out the attached form and return it to your school's main office by June 20th.  Thank you for your assistance in helping our district Go Green!

    The attached form is in English and Spanish.  It was also emailed to all families via Peachjar and will be back-packed from elementary schools one last time.

  • The 2017-18 School Calendar has been REVISED, as approved at the May 2, 2017 BOE Meeting

    The revisions include a one-day earlier  Start Date to school on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017; and different dates for Spring Recess beginning Friday, March 30 thru Friday, April 6, 2018.

    The revised version has been attached, below, and emailed to staff and families District-wide via Peachjar and Parent Portal accounts.

  • Kindergarten Registration is now OPEN. Children who turn 5 years of age by December 1, 2017 are eligible to register.

    To find out how to register your incoming Kindergartner, please go to our District homepage at www.nyackschools.org; click on "Parent Resources" at the top of the page in the Navigation Bar; scroll down and click on "Registration".  Follow the directions for online registration.  Once you have registered online OR if you have any questions regarding the process, please contact the District's Registrar's Office at 353 - 7038 to make an appointment.  Thank you.

  • REMINDER Regarding the District's NEW Media Release Opt-Out Form and Protocol

    Parents and Guardians: the District has a NEW Media Release/Opt Out protocol that will go into effect this month, October, 2016.  All parents/guardians should have received the attached letter in their summer mailing  that  included  a September 26th deadline for any "Opt Outs".   Parents/guardians who do not wish their child's photograph to be featured on our new websites must have checked the appropriate boxes on this form and have sent it back to their child's school.  Please call the District's Office of Public Relations at (845) 353-7013 with any questions regarding this new protocol.  The Media Opt Out Form is one that can be filled out at any time but must be kept at the school building level for easy access by staff and to ensure that the protocol  is effectively followed. The District looks forward to celebrating daily accomplishments and sharing them via posts to our new District sites.

BUDGET VOTE AND BOARD TRUSTEE ELECTION - TUESDAY, MAY 15, 2018

POLLS OPEN: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM  

POLLING LOCATIONS:

1.  Depew Manor
2.  Hilltop Building (Nyack Schools Administration Building)
3.  Valley Cottage Elementary School
4.  Upper Nyack Elementary School

FIND YOUR POLLING LOCATION (Upper Nyack, Upper Grandview and Grandview are all listed under NYACK)

VOTER REGISTRATION:  

To qualify as a voter, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years old
  • A resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the day of the vote

In order to vote in the school budget vote and board elections, voters must be registered with the Rockland County Board of Elections or Nyack School District.  You are registered if you have voted in a general or school election at your present address in the past 4 years.   Am I registered?

To Register:

  • You may register with the Board of Elections, 11 New Hempstead Rd, New City, NY 10956, (845- 638-5172).
  • You may register at the Nyack Schools District Office, 13A Dickinson Avenue, Nyack through Wednesday, May 9, 2018.  In-person registration is required along with photo identification and proof of residence.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
A registered voter who will be unable to vote in person on the day of the election must first complete an APPLICATION FOR ABSENTEE BALLOT which can be downloaded here or obtained from the District Clerk by mail or in person at the Nyack Schools Administration Building, 13A Dickinson Avenue, Nyack. Upon receipt and review of the application, a ballot will be issued. Ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on the day of the vote.   

BOARD CANDIDATES:
Any person 18 years or older; a resident of the District for at least a year; a U.S. citizen; and a registered voter may run for a position on the School Board.

Anyone interested in running for the Board of Education should contact the District Clerk at 353-7015 to obtain a packet containing the guidelines for running and the nominating petition. Signatures of at least 25 qualified voters are required on the nominating petition. The deadline for filing the petition is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018.
