Speech & Language Services
Speech Services are provided in all schools and grade levels as part of a student’s regular or Special Education program.
Speech and Language intervention is provided when appropriate for those students needing direct instruction in the areas of: phonology, semantics, syntax and pragmatics. In addition, students with weaknesses in voice or fluency may also receive services.
Parents are encouraged to understand their child’s speech and/or language needs, the goals of therapy and what they can do at home to enhance their child’s progress. This parental involvement helps to support carryover and generalization of communication skills.
Students classified by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) may receive speech Therapy Services according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
¨ Frequency and duration of these services are individually mandated to meet student needs.
¨ Goals and objectives of therapy are individually determined based on the student’s current level of functioning.
¨ Non-classified students may receive Speech-Language Services as Educationally related Services (ERSS) if deemed appropriate by the building Instructional Support Teams (IST).
